SM Girls: Saber Marionette R (SMガールズ セイバーマリオネットR) is the first of the Saber Marionette franchise to be released on media while its historical setting makes it the second instalment sequencing after Saber Marionette J.
In January 1995, the series started off as a twelve-episode audio drama series that aired on the radio show Nowanchatte Say You. The audio drama concluded in April 1995 and the story was continued one month later with the release of the first episode of the OVA series. Episode two was released in late July 1995, and the final episode in September 1995. The OVA is currently licensed by Media Blasters.
The novel version was written by Katsumi Hasegawa and published under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, compiling up to 2 novels.
